General Paints manufactures from its head office based in Celbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland.
Founded in 1953, the business started by specialising oil-based glosses, oxides, enamelling for machines, undercoating and paints to line roads. Around 1958 the business produced paint for domestic use and in the 60’s it brought in a tinting system for Irish consumers and the trade.
By the end of the 1960’s, emulsion technology was introduced from the US, General Paints embraced this new development, Ultimately becoming the initial manufacturer of acrylic based paints. This continues to the present as General Paints are still at the leading edge of acrylic coating manufactures in the Ireland and the UK.
Over the last decade, General Paints has implemented a programme of continued modernisation, with investment in plant, equipment and expertise.
